Call to Action Re: Pending Tax Incentive Legislation in CA and NY

CALIFORNIA TAX INCENTIVE NEWS
Good news for unscripted production in So Cal – the CA state bill that opens the door for tax credits for unscripted production has passed!
 
Here's the relevant language for what's now included in the increased tax credit percentage in CA:

For taxable years beginning on or after January 1, 2025, and only for purposes of the credit allowed in subdivision (k), a large-scale competition show, not including traditional reality, game shows, talk shows, or docufollow television programming, that is produced in California, with a minimum production budget of one million dollars ($1,000,000) per episode.

This bill is in addition to the other recent bill increasing the CA state cap on the tax credit program from $330 million to $750 million.

NEW YORK TAX INCENTIVE NEWS
The NY state bill (NY S04305) proposing inclusion of documentary films in the NY tax credit program is still in process in the NY State Senate. Please contact your state senators and assembly members to urge their support of the bill.
